The Silent Giant in the kalawewa National Park.... 🐘

I am writing this article in the seventh day since his death....😌🐘

Deegha - 01/ Deegadanthu - 01 was one of biggest tuskers in sri lanka. First time I saw him in the kalawewa national park in 2023. And after in August of 2024. It was my second & last encounter. That tusker was so majestic. He was really amazing. His tusks and body grew as the symbol of strength. Followings are few photographs of Deega - 01 which I had taken in this year. Actually, all photographs shows his timeless beauty. He looked like a legend of the wild.

The Kalawewa National Park is one of amazing national park in North Central Province Sri Lanka. Herds of elephants are roaming in the Kalawewa area. There are many elephants & tuskers around the Kalawewa lake. Many sighting of elephants can be seen around the kalawewa area. This park has become a tourism attractive place because of these majestic elephants.

Deega - 01 was the symbol of Kalawewa through out this year. He was the last remaining majestic tusker in Kalawewa area. His massive tusks shows his endless beauty. Not only that, he was the second largest tusks owner in Sri Lanka. First is the Tusker Kawanthissa.

Finally, The Sri Lankan tusker Deegadanthu - 01 had gone far away from this world. I felt that he had gone to the heaven from this cruel world. On last 29th he was died due to electricution. That matter is directly affect in the economy and the prosperity of entire country. Nation also talking about this and now it is popular news. As a photographer and nature lover i am also totaly worried about that incident. As we observed during the wildlife photography, Actually they are really calm. But, huge number of elephants have died due to human activities for past years and still happening. It is because of human - elephant conflict. It shows huge lost for the entire country. Actually as a Sri Lankan I am really worried about the fact that still we don't have a proper programme, procedure or any technique for wildlife conservation & environmental protection too. Governers also dont care about this matter. So as a nation we must stand strong to save the wildlife and nature for our future generation. And also we must find a successful solution for the human & elephant conflict. Government must make a proper plan for this disaster. Deegadanthu - 01 has also gone far away, but his memories will forever inspire in our hearts. His spirit will always blow throughout the Kalawewa....

Deega -01 has also gone like Rewatha, Bharana, Walagmbha & Deega - 02.... But we have response to save the other remaining giants...

Rest in Peace Legend.... 🙏
