Scientific Name : KETUPA ZEYLONENSIS
The Brown Fish Owl spicies are distributed in Sri Lanka, India, Nepal, Turkey, Iran, Bhuthan, Bangaladesh, Myanmar, Iran, Pakistan, China, Hong Kong, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Viaetnam and Malaysia. Some of these spicies are possibly extinct in Israel, Iraq, Jordan, Lebonan and Syria.
Habbits : These spicies are semi-diurnal roosting in large trees during the day time and they are leaving well before sunset. They will often fly up & down...sometimes skimming the water.
Size : Length 48-58 cm. Wing length 355-43mm. Tail length 175-214mm. Weight 1105- 1308g. Females are often larger & heavier than males.
Feed : The Brown Fish Owls feed mainly on fish, frogs & crabs by hunting. But, they will also take birds, reptiles, snakes, lizards, rodents, shrimp & beetles. They are generally found in thick lawland forest & well-wooded country, mostly near water.
Breeding : The breeding season of Brown Fish Owl is generally from November to March. But, as at late April in Sri Lanka. The female lays one or two roundish white eggs.
